SCL & CSFS Standards of Spectral Radiant Flux

Labsphere SCL-600 Spectral Flux Standard Lamp

Lamp standards for calibrating integrating sphere spectroradiometers

Labsphere's SCL individual standards of spectral radiant flux and CSFS lamp sets serve as NIST-traceable references used in the calibration of integrating sphere photometers and spectroradiometers.

An integrating sphere photometer is normally calibrated using a standard of spectral radiant flux, although standards of forward flux are now available when measuring samples placed outside the sphere (see: Labsphere FFS forward flux standards). The lamp is placed in the centre of the sphere and radiates into 4π steradians.

The SCL standard lamps are available in three power levels, as a 50 lumen standard for calibrating 6-inch spheres, as a 400 lumen standard for calibrating 10, 12 and 20-inch spheres and as a 1,400 lumen standard for calibrating systems with a diameter of 40-inches or larger. Calibrations are performed in units of Watts per nm from 350 to 1050nm. The calibration certificate reports the total luminous flux in lumens and the calibration data is supplied on a CD-ROM in a format which is directly compatible with Labsphere's LightMtrX software.

Each SCL standard has been carefully screened, seasoned, and calibrated in Labsphere's manufacturing facility under the guidelines recommended by the IESNA (Illuminating Engineering Society of North America). All of Labsphere’s standard lamps are first seasoned for 1% of their rated life and then screened for stability and repeatable performance before they are selected for calibration. The selected lamps are then calibrated directly to the NIST lumen, for a calibration result you can rely upon.

Labsphere’s lamp standards may be purchased individually or in sets of three which follows the recommendations of national laboratories and industry standards for lamp photometry. The use of three lamps prolongs the useful life of each lamp, since they may be used interchangeably. A multiple lamp set allows the user to check one lamp against another. This process of intercomparison helps to correct for the effects of lamp depreciation and ensures accurate readings over time. The cost of a set of three lamps is also significantly less that the cost of purchasing three lamps individually. Calibration data and a certificate are provided for each lamp.

You will need to order a power supply for your chosen SCL lamp separately. The Labsphere LPS series are precision, current regulated lamp power supplies that provide the required current to drive the particular standard lamp. For ordering information, see below. Further options are electrical sockets for each lamp type. To connect the LPS power supply to an LMS series integrating sphere, an electrical cable is also available.
